Kevin Haas--Co-Head Running Coach Kevin is an elite runner who has won five MN Distance Runner of the Year awards for his age division and has set twelve MN single age records in distances from 5k to marathon. He's run 11 marathons in all, including a personal best of 2:30:54. A CBRC member for four years, he's always coached runners unofficially before volunteering to take the reins for Spring 2005. In his spare time, Kevin is a Food Technologist at General Mills. He has a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Minnesota. While he's certainly a uniquely talented runner, Kevin's main goal is to work with and improve all Calhoun Beach Running Club members, the majority of whom run at average speeds and shoot for marathon times between 3:20 and 4:30 or half-marathon times between 1:40 and 2:15. Paul Donnelly--Co-Head Coach Paul has been a part of the CBRC since June, 2005, when he moved to the Twin Cities and was looking for a fun running club to be a part of. A few months later, he competed in his first marathon, running a 2:49 at the Twin Cities Marathon. He followed that race with a Boston Marathon of 2:45 in April, 2007. Paul graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in May, 2005. While there, he competed on the Wash U cross country and track teams. His main focus was the 8k and 5k where his PRs are 26:30 and 15:53 respectively. Paul comes from a running family as his father has competed in over a dozen Boston Marathons, his aunt competed in the 1984 Olympic Trials, and his grandfather ran track for Notre Dame. When he's not running, Paul works for a small software company called Medicom Digital in the downtown Warehouse District. While he is slowly becoming a Minnesota fan, Paul still pledges allegiance to his hometown Buffalo Sabres and Bills. Luke Carlson--Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Carlson joined the Calhoun Beach Running Club as an assistant coach for the 2005 Grandmas Marathon Training Program. Luke is the co-author of the new book, "The Female Athlete: Train for Success," the former Strength and Conditioning/Fitness Coordinator at Minnetonka High School, and a strength training consultant to many twin cities distance runners. Previously, Luke served as the strength and conditioning coach at Blaine High School, Fitness Specialist at Fitness First Personalized Training Studio, and a member of the Minnesota Vikings Strength and Conditioning Staff. In addition, Luke is the Director of the annual National Strength and Science Seminar. Luke is an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Health and Fitness Instructor. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from the University of Minnesoa where he's currenty pursuing a Master of Arts degree in exercise physiology. Luke owns and operates Discover Strength, where many of our runners go for strength work. Todd Melander--Assistant Coach and Organizer Todd has the second longest tenure of any CBRC member. Prior to May, 2000 he had never run more than three miles in his life. He immediately became hooked on running, and now is training for his fourteenth marathon. Todd ran his first in Paris, his third in London, and is seriously considering organizing a group to do another spring marathon in Europe next year. Always a pretty average runner, he finally broke four hours at Grandma's in 2005 and set a personal best of 3:36 at the California International Marathon in Dec. 2007. That after a 4:34 TCM eight weeks earlier...weather matters! Todd is currently finishing up a Ph.D. in statistics. He has an M.S. in stats from Iowa State, a B.A. in math and psychology from St. Olaf, and in his spare time runs a statistical consulting business in Minneapolis. Cari Tschida--Calhoun Beach Club Athletic Director Cari has been with the Calhoun Beach Club since November of 2003. She currently oversees the Running Club as well as Personal Training, Pilates, Group Exercise and all club Fitness Programs. She has her Masters in Exercise Physiology and is a certified Personal Trainer and Pilates Instructor. She has run 19 marathons and twice qualified for the Boston Marathon. It is her hope to be running marathons until she is 100 years old. Cari has recently left CBC and we miss her terribly. |
